Why Queenstown Rocks

Queenstown, also called Tahuna in Maori, is a resort town located in Otago in the New Zealand's South Island. The resort town is built around an inlet called Queenstown Bay on Lake Wakatipu. The town boasts spectacular views of mountains such as The Remarkables, Cecil Peak, Walter Peak, Ben Lomond and Queenstown Hill.

Below are the reasons why the city rocks and why you should make it part of your itinerary during your New Zealand tour.

1 Spectacular Views

Apart from the mountains listed above, the city is home to Queenstown-Lakes District, a place where you will find inland lakes such as Lake Hāwea, Lake Wakatipu, and Lake Wanaka. Suffice to say that a place that has as many water bodies enjoys year round lush, green vegetation and a lot of water sports.

2. It is not crowded

Unlike in many popular tourist destinations, you will get a breathing space. The town is home to just 16,600 people with a lot of unused tourist infrastructure. It is the only tourist destination in the world where you do not need to book prior to visiting. It has thus endeared itself among the tourist as the center of commerce oriented adventure and skiing activities.

3. Attractions

If there is a place with as many tourist attractions concentrated in one center than Queenstown outside Rome, I would love to know it. Among the top attractions include; Milford Sound, Lake Wakatipu, The Remarkables, Shortover River, Coronet Peak, Lake Wanaka, Routeburn Track, Skippers Canyon, Lake Hayes, Arrow River, Skycity Queenstown and many more.

4. Good Climate

The city has an oceanic climate that has warm summers and chilly winters. Some may look at chilly summers as a bad thing, but it is when the winter sports lovers enjoy the most. They can ski, snowboard, horse sleigh, ice-fish etc. The summer temperatures can get as high as 30 degrees Celsius and tourists are thus advised to carry sunblock lotions when travelling to the town during summer.

5. Ease of movement

Although not accessible by rail, the city is accessible by both air and road, with the city's international airport being the fourth busiest in New Zealand by passenger numbers. Its helicopter base is the busiest in New Zealand. The buses transport system is efficient to a fault. I guess this is helped by the fact that the city is not crowded.

Now that you know this New Zealand town rocks, what is stopping you from spending your holiday there? By the way, it is not as expensive a destination as some that you will find in Europe...
