Cover Yourself with Mud at the Boryeong Mud Festival in Boryeong, South Korea
One of the best festivals in the world, the Boryeong Mud Festival is where you, your family and friends can enjoy frolicking in clean mud! De-stress, relax, and enjoy the activities in this festival where you can roll, mess up, and be covered with mud!
Commonly known as Daechon, the city of Boryeong is on the coast of the Yellow Sea and about 200 kilometers from Seoul. Boryeong-gun and Daecheon City used to be two different cities until it was merged in 1995. It has an estimated 106,702 inhabitants as of 2014. You can either take the train from Seoul or Busan, or take a bus or car from the numerous cities in South Korea. If you would rather fly, the nearest major international airports to Boryeong are Gimpo International Airport and Incheon International Airport which are serviced by a number of international carriers from all over the world.
The Boryeong Mud Festival is a ten-day event held every July. It draws in millions of both local and international tourists, and it is understandable why, this festival is full of fun and wacky activities including a dip in a large mud bath, mud massage, mud marathon, mud air-bounce, mud sliding, mud wrestling, mud king contest, mud fireworks fantasy, silt extreme training, and a whole lot more! Aside from these activities, it also features a mud festival photo exhibition and a world mud skin care contest. Nights are filled with hip hop-rave parties, and mud rock concerts featuring K-pop artists. After you enjoy a “mudtastic” time in the festival, you must visit the numerous attractions in the city including the Daechon and Muchangpo beaches, Gaehwa Yesul Park, Coal Museum, and the Seongjusan National Forest.
