Travel agents we need to stop selling and start marketing

About 6 months ago my business partner gave me an ultimatum

Stop selling like its the 1980's

What did he mean you ask ?

Stop cold calling customers, working without systems and driving from one sales call to another.

Essentially he asked me to give up my sales role and adopt the role of a digital marketer.

I have to be honest I was reluctant at first. I had a lot of success as a sales person and felt the transition may not produce the same results.

So where did I start ?

To begin I Identified my ideal customer.

In most travel agents cases its a customer that values customer service, has disposable income, values their time and loves to travel.

I then asked myself  "Where do these people hang out ? "

Based on my research I identified two places in which I would focus my efforts in the very beginning.

One was my blog

The focus would be to educate and add value via my blog

Example: Why you should invest a little more in your next beach vacation and discover Aruba

Two was Linkedin

The Focus was too connect with fellow business owners who I felt based on their profile fit my ideal customer

So how has it gone so far ?

I have to be honest at the beginning, I felt as though I was speaking to an empty room, however about two months in, I started to see the fruits of my labor. Digital marketing is like farming you have to plant the seeds, wait for the crop to grow, and then start to harvest.
